1. On March 24, the Tribunal of Birni-N'Konni sentenced Naroua, the
defendant in the slavery case of Hadizatou Mani (reftel),to one
year's imprisonment, a fine of one million F CFA (USD 2000) in
damages payable to Mani, and a fine of 500,000 F CFA (USD 1000) in
damages payable to the Government of Niger. Although the court has
rendered this sentence, Naroua has yet to be located and detained.
2. Mani, a 2009 Department of State International Woman of Courage
Award recipient, received an ECOWAS Court of Justice-imposed
settlement of 10 million F CFA (USD 20,000) in late March 2009 from
the Government of Niger.
