Joint Secretary for the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and
World Bank, Govind Mohan on March 12. In a follow up meeting
J/S Mohan stated that the government of India agrees with the
United States' position that the proposed ADB requirement of
free, prior, and informed consent is too administratively
cumbersome, and that a free, prior, and informed consultation
requirement would be preferable to India. Mohan relayed that
India will bring this position to the as-yet-unscheduled
safeguard policies review meeting.
