"EXPECTATION FROM PAKISTAN," editorial in September 14 Hindi daily, DAINIK HINDUSTAN: "Home Minister P. Chidambaram's U.S. visit has yielded something, in that the U.S. has now at least asked Pakistan to bring the perpetrators of 26/11 to justice. Despite providing all the evidences, Pakistan is avoiding action against Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed.... India should keep up the pressure on Pakistan and also hold productive talks with the latter. Neither extreme aggressiveness, nor softness, will work." ¶2. "MUSHARAF'S CONFESSION" editorial in September 15 right of center Marathi Daily, SAAMNA: "Rulers before Musharaf have done it and present rulers are following suit. But while the others kept mum, Musharraf has revealed an open secret. Spreading hatred against India and Hindus is a political capital for elected as well as military rulers of Pakistan. Their political enterprise runs on this capital. Whenever Pakistan has received military or any other kind of aid from the U.S. a large portion of it has always been used against India. The cannons which should have been facing militants in Afghanistan are facing the borders of Jammu and Kashmir. But America's policy of not taking any Indian allegation against Pakistan seriously is very old." ¶3. "PAKISTAN'S LIES," editorial in September 15 left of center Marathi daily, LOKMAT: "India has given ample evidence to the world that in many terrorist incursions on the western border of India, Pakistan has used American military equipment.... Musharaf has achieved multiple objectives by doing this. First he has proved that the current rulers in Pakistan are misleading America and the world. Secondly, he has also brought this to the notice of the world as to how Pakistan is not fighting the war against terror with its full might. " -------------- INDIA-CHINA -------------- ¶4. "NEIGHBORS' ATITUDE," editorial in September 14 Hindi daily, AMAR UJALA: "The latest rocket attack on the Attari-Wagah border is yet another proof of Pakistan's anti-India gland. At the same time, a China that is worried about close U.S.-India relations has stepped up its activities in Arunachal Pradesh and Ladakh... Now Bangladesh's refusal to deport ULFA chief Anup Chetia, who is creating uproar in India's northeastern states, has raised questions on its NEW DELHI 00001917 002 OF 002 intentions. Now one year after the economic downturn began one wonders whether the economic downturn was real. Or was it just that some American companies who had established an economic empire globally felt the brunt of their own mistakes and faced economic problems which resulted into an economic crisis in America." ¶6. "OBAMA'S MEDICINES TURNED AGAINST HIM," editorial in September 15 centrist Marathi Daily, SAKAL: "The journey of America's social and economic policies seems to have arrived at a decisive turn. The opposition to health policies goes on to represent just that. So on one hand you can see President Obama intending to take care of the disadvantaged classes and on the other youth refusing this socialistic system. In America, 45 million citizens are deprived of any kind of insurance. 2.5 million people have insurance that is not sufficient. By reducing the insurance installments the Senate financial affairs committee president, Max Baucus, wants to fill this gap. But some people within the Democratic Party fold are opposing this as they allege that this scheme would reduce the profits of private insurance companies." ROEMER
