WAR AGAINST TERRORISM
--------------
1. "AMERICA'S DOUBLE STANDARDS," op-ed in August 12
left-of-center Marathi daily, AAPLA MAHANAGAR: "The
U.S. policy towards Pakistan is duplicitous and not
favoring India. The U.S. is more bothered about
Pakistan's sovereignty, as if it is America's
responsibility to protect Pakistan from various
domestic forces.... Secretary Clinton's India visit and
her pro-Pakistan remarks are also revealing. At a time
when it is more than obvious that Pakistan is not
committed to any bilateral dialogue with India, Madame
Clinton repeatedly advised India to help Pakistan to
dismantle the terrorist infrastructure. So the onus
lies on India, not on Pakistan.... What type of bilateral
relationship can India expect with the U.S. when the
latter's much-touted Af-Pak policy does not even
mention the anti-India activities executed on the
Pakistan soil?"
--------------
INDIA-CHINA RELATIONS
--------------
2. "CHINA'S ATTITUDE," editorial in August 11
nationalist Hindi daily, RASHTRIYA SAHARA: "The joint
statement issued after the India China summit shows
there is no progress in the ties. The two sides only
expressed satisfaction at the talks, which is fine as
rhetoric, but otherwise meaningless. The border issue
stays where it was. The Chinese representative urged
for a solution that is acceptable to both sides, but he
left it at that. It is clear that there is no end in
sight to the vexed issue. China is in possession of
significant portions of our territory, but wants more.
This attitude is unhelpful and will not take us
anywhere."
--------------
INDIA-PAKISTAN RELATIONS
--------------
3. "PAKISTAN'S NEW GAME," editorial in August 11
nationalist Hindi daily, RASHTRIYA SAHARA: "Last week,
Indian authorities arrested two suspected members of
the outlawed Hizbul Mujahideen militant group who were
allegedly planning attacks in the capital New Delhi.
The two men were from Indian-administered Kashmir and
had been trained in Pakistan. It is clear that after
floating fake currency in India, Pakistan is back to
its tricks again. "
