(SBU) In an August 10 discussion about India's participation in the 64th UN General Assembly, MEA UN Political Deputy Secretary Sanjay Rana told us that India expects to send a delegation of 20 to 30 officials led by Prime Minister Singh and Foreign Minister Krishna. Post will transmit additional information once it is available. ¶2. (SBU) Government of India tentative participation is as follows: ¶A. Attendance of the Head of State: We have received no indication that President Pratibha Patil will attend. ¶B. Attendance of the Head of Government: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is expected to attend. --Name and Title: Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister --Arrival and Departure Dates: Exact arrival and departure dates are unknown. --Spouse's Attendance: We have received no indication that the Prime Minister's wife will attend. --Interpretation Required: No. ¶C. Attendance of the Foreign Minister: External Affairs Minister Somanahalli Mallajah (S.M.) Krishna is expected to attend. --Name and Title: Somanahalli Mallajah (S.M.) Krishna --Arrival and Departure Dates: Exact arrival and departure dates are unknown. --Spouse's Attendance: We have received no indication that the External Affairs Minister's wife will attend. --Interpretation Required: No. ¶D. Attendance of other VIP's: Rana conveyed the official delegation would total 20 to 30 officials, but could not offer specific information.
