1. (SBU) In an August 11 exchange about Bhutan's
participation in the 64th UN General Assembly, the MFA's
Director of Multilateral Affairs Kunzang Namgyel told us that
Bhutan expects to send a delegation of approximately five
officials led by Foreign Minister Ugyen Tshering. Post will
transmit additional information once it is available.
2. (SBU) Government of Bhutan tentative participation is as
follows:
A. Attendance of the Head of State: We have received no
indication that King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck will
attend.
B. Attendance of the Head of Government: We have received no
indication that Prime Minister Jigme Thinley will attend.
C. Attendance of the Foreign Minister: Minister of Foreign
Affairs Ugyen Tshering is expected to attend.
--Name and Title: Ugyen Tshering, Minister of Foreign Affairs
--Arrival and Departure Dates: Exact arrival and departure
dates are unknown.
--Spouse's Attendance: We have received no indication that
the Foreign Affairs Minister's wife will attend.
--Interpretation Required: No.
D. Attendance of other VIP's: Namgyel conveyed the official
delegation would total approximately five officials, but
could not offer specific information.
