INDIA-PAKISTAN RELATIONS
--------------
1. "PAKISTAN'S INTENTION," editorial in August 4 Hindi
daily, AMAR UJALA: "Pakistan is showing its true colors
now. From its attitude on the Hafiz Saeed's case, it is
clear that Pakistan has no intention to improve
relations with India. India should also adopt a tit-
for-tat attitude against Pakistan."
2. "PAKISTAN'S ATTITUDE," editorial in August 5
centrist Hindi daily, NAVBHARAT TIMES: "Pakistan did
not take long to break Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's
faith. Prime Minister Gilani had promised action
against the Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed, but
the case against him has been postponed indefinitely.
Now it should be clear that its action against the
Taliban terrorists in Swat does not mean that it will
also act against those involved in terrorist activities
in India. If this is Pakistan's attitude, then there is
no possibility of moving forward with India."
3. "THE SHADOW OF A PAK-ORIENTED POLICY," op-ed article
in August 6 centrist Marathi daily, SAKAAL: "Prime
Minister Manmohan Singh's Sharm-el-Sheikh stance is
currently being discussed too much in India. The
problem is that India should be aware of the changing
geo-political realities in the world; fixating on
Pakistan narrows India's foreign policy spectrum.
India's foreign policy has to reflect its own rising
status in South Asia. At present, India is too involved
in relatively insignificant, particularly Pakistan-
oriented, micro details. Our stance is therefore often
apologetic, though we claim to be an emerging
superpower."
4. "ULTERIOR MOTIVE," editorial in August 6 right-of-
center Gujarati daily, GUJARAT SAMACHAR: "The release
of Hafiz Saeed by the Pakistani Supreme Court is
shocking news for India. Pakistan has once again
displayed its ulterior motives in failing to rein in
such extremist elements. It is necessary for India to
adopt a tough stand against Pakistan, and not merely
engage this rogue neighbor in dialogue sessions."
5. "PAKISTAN'S CARELESS ATTITUDE," editorial in August
5 right-of-center Urdu daily, HAMARA SAMAJ: "Foreign
Minister Krishna's anger is justified over the Pakistan
Supreme Court's decision on Hafiz Saeed, the alleged
mastermind of the Mumbai terror attack. Pakistan's
attitude has been disappointing and highly
objectionable. It seems Pakistani authorities now find
themselves helpless before the might of terrorist
organizations. Their helplessness may prove to be
Pakistan's demise."
