1. (C) In a July 21 meeting with Joint Secretary (Americas)
Gaitri Kumar, Assistant Secretary Robert Blake raised the
issue of two American NGOs recently refused accreditation by
a UN ECOSOC committee. The NGOs in question are the
Democracy Coalition Project and the Dynamic Christian World
Mission Foundation. India abstained from the vote on one and
voted against accreditation for the other.
2. (C) A/S Blake conveyed that the U.S. would appreciate
India'ssupport in overturning the decision at the July 27
ECOSOC meeting. J/S Gaitri assured A/S Blake that she would
follow up on the issue with the appropriate Indian officials.
