1. The Government of India (GOI) has declined the proposed
visit of a team from the Department of Energy (National
Nuclear Security Administration) and Department of Homeland
Security (Bureau of Customs and Border Protection) to discuss
the Secure Freight Initiative (SFI) and Megaports Initiative.
The Ministry of External Affairs has conveyed that the
proposed dates of August 3-6 (Ref A) will not be convenient,
and added they will respond to the SFI and Megaports
Initiative proposals at a later date. The full response
follows.
Dear Robin,
During recent official interaction with senior US Government
officials, GOI was requested to consider receiving a US
delegation from 3-6 August 2009 to discuss the Megaports/SFI
proposals with GOI officials.
This proposal has been considered and I am directed to convey
that it would not be convenient for GOI to receive the USG
delegation. We will revert on the proposal at a later date.
Regards,
Vani
