TERRORISM/PAKISTAN
--------------
1. "PAKISTAN'S BACKOUT," editorial in June 3 AMAR UJALA
Hindi daily: "Pakistan maintains its double standards,
even though it is fighting a war for its existence. On
the one hand, it bans Jamaat-ud-Dawa, but at the same
time it releases the organization' leader, Saeed."
2. "PAKISTAN'S JUSTICE," editorial in June 3 DAINIK
JAGRAN Hindi daily: "The Mumbai attack mastermind and
JuD Chief Saeed's release should be an eye-opener not
just for India, but for all those countries who think
Pakistan is serious about defeating terrorism. The U.S.
and U.K. refuse to accept the truth about Pakistan, but
India too has failed to correctly assess the situation.
Trusting Pakistan's policymakers is deceiving
yourself."
3. "TRAITOR PAKISTAN," editorial in May 4 centrist
Marathi daily, SAKAAL: "The release of terrorist Hafiz
Saeed in Pakistan is a defining moment for India - a
time to rethink its stance toward Pakistan. It is also
the time to judge if the U.S. can in any way help
India, or if India should sketch out its own strategy
to tackle Pakistan."
4. "SHAMELESS PAKISTAN," editorial in May 4 centrist
Marathi daily, NAVSHAKTI: "Even after the release of
Jamaat-u-Dawa chief Saeed, the U.S. has not questioned
Pakistan as to why substantive evidence could not be
produced against a dreaded terrorist. The episode not
only underlines Pakistan's lack of commitment in the
war on terror, it shows that U.S. designs in South Asia
are suspicious. One wonders if the U.S. really wants
peace in South Asia."
