NEPAL

1. "NEW GOVERNMENT IN NEPAL," editorial in the May 26
nationalist Hindi daily RASHTRIYA SAHARA. "Nepal's
former Prime Minister Prachanda may accuse his
successor Madhav Kumar Nepal of hatching a conspiracy
to oust his government, just as he accused India.
Instead of a confrontation, Madhav should try to get
Prachanda's cooperation in the national interest.
Nepal's leaders have to adopt a democratic behavior. It
is necessary for the Maoists to understand that
political differences are fine, but these differences
should not obstruct the paths of democracy and nation-
building."

NORTH KOREA MISSILE TEST

2. "THE CALAMITY FROM KOREA," editorial in May 27 left-
of-center Marathi daily MAHARASHTRA TIMES. "Despite
being threatened with isolation, North Korea seems
ready for excommunication. This stiff stance is not
favorable for any country. First, North Korea will not
be able to sustain itself on its own. Second, the
neighboring countries, including China and India, need
to find ways to bring North Korea into the realm of
reasonable dialogue."

3. "NEGOTIATION IS THE KEY," editorial in the May 27
Bangalore-based, left-of-center Kannada daily
PRAJAVANI. "The discriminatory policies being followed
by certain countries with regard to nuclear
proliferation are the root cause of this whole
problem. North Korea might give up its adamant stand if
the nuclear nations can agree to destroy their own
nuclear weapons. The situation may be defused if the
United Nations can initiate the supply of food,
medicines and fuel to North Korea on humanitarian
grounds."

MIDDLE EAST PEACE PROCESS

4. "PALESTINE CONFERENCE AND THE ISLAMIC WORLD,"
editorial in May 26 right-of-center Urdu daily
RASHTRIYA SAHARA. "Addressing the Palestine Integration
Conference in Turkey, the Mufti of Qatar and the
Chairman of the International Ulama Union, Allama Yusuf
Al Qarzaawi, appealed to the entire Islamic world to
unite to save 'Baitul-Maqdis' in Palestine. In truth,
the Islamic world's criminal silence with respect to
Israel's oppression of Palestine is condemnable. For

them, the independence of the Palestinian people is not
a worthy enough cause for which they should disturb
their luxurious life."
