(SBU) Embassy staff delivered reftel demarche to Allah Maye
Halina, Protocol Director at the Chadian MFA, October 27,
following delivery of previous messages on the same subject
in the course of the summer. Halina told us that Chad had
still not made up its mind on which candidate to support for
the UN International Civil Service Commission Director, but
asked that we translate our key points on the suitability of
Lucretia Meyers into French and provide them as a diplomatic
note (Embassy subsequently did so.) Halina promised to pass
our message to Chad's Mission to the UN in New York, and also
to its Embassy in Washington, so that follow-up discussions
could occur, as necessary, with those most familiar with the
case.
