INSTALLATION IN BOSSASO ATTACKED

(S) At about 0100 (local),March 28, a group of about 12 -
15 gunmen attacked a Puntland Intelligence Service (PIS)
installation in the town of Bossaso. No one at the PIS
installation was injured during the relatively prolonged
firefight. It is possible that one of the attackers was
wounded, or killed during the fighting. The attack was in
apparent retaliation for the March 24 arrest in Bossaso by
PIS operatives and Puntland police of Sheikh Osman Mohamed
Shire (reftel). (Sheikh Osman was reportedly the cleric who
presided at the October 27, 2008, procedure in Kismaayo that
ended in the stoning to death of a Somali girl who had been
accused of adultery.) The PIS is attempting to trace the
whereabouts of the attackers. No one had been detained as of
1200 (local),and no one has claimed responsibility for the
attack.
