1. (C) P/E Chief delivered reftel demarche to Ambassador Muhammad
al Khusaibi, the Chief of the American Affairs Department of the
Omani MFA on September 15. al Khusaibi took the message on board
without comment.
2. (C) The DCM, on a separate visit to the MFA the same day, also
delivered the message to Muhammad al-Hassan, chief of staff to
Yusuf bin Alawi, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs. Al
Hassan more pointedly replied that Oman and other countries have
delivered this message many times before. "The U.S. should
consider that, by continuing to hammer this point, it may be
devaluing the currency," he said.
