PAKISTAN IDP CRISIS

1. (SBU) Embassy received June 13 a diplomatic note confirming an
Omani contribution of $12 million to address the IDP crisis in
Pakistan. This result comes on the heels SRAP Holbrooke's June 6
meeting with Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said. The amount represents
an increase of $2 million over the original $10 million pledge
(reftel) with the additional $2 million earmarked for UNHCR.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs West Asian Affairs Department
presents its best compliments to the Friendly Embassy of the United
States of America in Muscat (Office of the Chief of Mission).
Based on the Sultanate Government's conviction on the need for the
international community to join efforts to alleviate the suffering
of the displaced people in the Republic of Pakistan, the Sultanate
will offer two packages of assistance, as follows:
1. In-kind assistance worth $10 million to be presented through the
Omani Charitable Organization;
2. The amount of $2 million to be presented through the UN High
Commission for Refugees.
