1. Pol-Econ Chief delivered ref B demarche April 4 to Mohammed
al-Hassan, Political Affairs Director for Minister Responsible for
Foreign Affairs Yusef bin Alawi. [Note: Post also submitted a
formal diplomatic note regarding the U.S. candidacy for the UN
Human Rights Council. End Note.] Al-Hassan had no substantive
response, but promised to forward the information to relevant
officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). On April 8,
post received a diplomatic note from the MFA stating that the
Sultanate would "attach the utmost consideration and interest" to
our request for support for a seat on the Human Rights Council.
2. Post delivered ref A information April 19 on the Human Rights
Council election, including a copy of the "Human Rights Commitments
and Pledges of the United States of America," via diplomatic note
to the MFA. Post will report any response or related information
as warranted via septel. .
