On August 26 Ambassador delivered to DFM Sergey Ryabkov
letter of invitation (Ref A) from President Obama to
President Medvedev for the September 24 UNSC Summit. We also
delivered demarche points to MFA IO Department. Ryabkov
reported that Russian UN PermRep Ambassador Churkin had been
charged with working logistical and substantive details of
the summit. Ryabkov noted that U.S. views on the meeting had
already been conveyed to Moscow by Churkin (Ref B),and that
they were being reviewed. He expressed appreciation for the
invitation from President Obama to President Medvedev, and
promised to transmit it to the Kremlin immediately.
