1. Deputy Political Counselor spoke to the Foreign
Ministry's Director of the Office for the Elimination of
Discrimination Elia del Carmen Sosa Nishizaki about the USG's
decision not participate in further negotiations on the basis
of the current text for the Durban Review Conference. Sosa
expressed her hope that the U.S. would ultimately be able to
participate in the conference.
2. Separately, Deputy Political Counselor informed Sosa of
the U.S. decision to resume participation as an observer at
the UN Human Rights Council. Sosa was already aware of this
decision but welcomed formal notice.
