¶1. In the absence of the Foreign Minister and the unavailability of
the Acting Foreign Minister, PolOff delivered reftel demarche and
letter to Ministry of Foreign Affairs Socio-Political Analyst
Sandile Hlatshwayo, on October 28. PolOff mentioned the work King
Mswati III and President Obama have done on food security during the
recent UN General Assembly session, and Hlatshwayo recalled the
emphasis Secretary Clinton placed on the topic during her Africa
travels. He stated that hunger remained a tragic problem in
Swaziland, particularly in the lowveld regions affected by drought.
Hlatshwayo had no other immediate substantive response; however he
stated he would share the information with his principals.
