SUBJECT: U.S. CAN EXPECT LESOTHO'S NORMAL SUPPORT

1. Public Diplomacy, Economic, and Political Officer (PDEP) met
with the Director of Europe and Americas at the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, October 26, to discuss reftels.
Concerning ref A, we are advised that Lesotho "should be able to
support our candidate." This is consistent with the response
they had given during our first demarche on this subject. PDEP
will follow up be re-sending the bio of the proposed candidate.
2. Concerning ref B, the Director stated that she will have to
confer with colleagues who are better informed on the various
requests contained in the cable. PDEP left a non-paper for her
review and circulation to relevant colleagues within the
Ministry. Particularly on the issues of no-action motions and
the "Defamation of Religion" resolution, the Director indicated
that: "Considering our close relations, she's quite sure there
won't be a problem." She will be following up with her
colleagues both in country and at Lesotho's Mission to the UN.
