1. On Thursday, June 18, 2009, the Public Diplomacy, Economic,
and Political (PDEP) Officer met with the Director of the Europe
and Americas desk to discuss reftel and two other Washington
requests. The Director will share the nonpaper with her
superiors and the Ministry of Agriculture and will get back to
us if there is any substantive response to this issue.
2. Additionally, DCM has been involved in the drafting of a
document on food security through the Development Partners'
Consultative Forum (DPCF) which was presented on Wednesday, June
17, 2009, to the Minister of Finance. The paper was entitled
"Hunger and Poverty Reduction" and lays out several concrete
suggestions for upscaling the GOL's efforts to reduce hunger and
poverty in the Kingdom. The DPCF expects a reaction from the
Minister within the next few weeks.
