¶1. Post discussed reftel points with DFA's Office of United
Nations and Other International Organizations (UNIO),and
thanked the Philippines for speaking up at the negotiating
sessions to offer their qualified support of the Independent
Expert mandate. Post also requested that the Philippine
government ask other Asian and Middle Eastern members of the
HRC to support the appointment of an Independent Expert.
Although the UNIO office director was unable to agree
immediately to that request, she said that she would discuss
it with senior levels in the DFA to ensure the reftel points
were given careful consideration. Post will continue to
engage with DFA to build on the Philippines' support for this
draft resolution and to encourage GRP to ask other nations to
be more supportive.
