1. (S) CDA made reftel points April 16 in a meeting with
Foreign Minister Khalid bin Ahmad Al Khalifa. Also attending
were MFA aide Amb. Saeed Al Faihani, and Bahrain,s visiting
Washington Ambassador Houda Nonoo.
2. (S) Shaikh Khalid agreed to our request that Bahrain
support publicly the P-5 plus 1 approach to Iran. He said he
would also privately urge the Iranians to accept it. He
asked the U.S. to support the P5 plus1/GCC-plus format, and
hoped that it would eventually be taken a step further to
include Iran, &but it,s still probably too early for that.8
