(C) A/DCM met with MFA International Organizations Director Fouad Darwish on April 9 to discuss the USG's candidacy for the UN Human Rights Council (reftel). Darwish was pleased to hear the news and said that he would brief the FM later that afternoon with a recommendation that the GOB vote for the U.S. on May 12. He asked that our delegation in New York coordinate with the Bahraini mission ahead of the vote. ¶2. (C) Comment: Darwish was effusive in his praise of the Administration's decision to work to improve the HRC from within, saying that, "America shouldn't be outside looking in.
