ACCESSION MOVING FORWARD
REF: STATE 7128
1. According to Spanish MFA Strategic Affairs and
Terrorism Office Director Pablo Nuno, the Spanish
ratification of the NATO accession for Croatia and Albania is
moving forward and will be completed well in advance of the
April Summit. The Spanish legislative branch approved and
forwarded the documents to the Vice Presidency in December.
The Vice Presidency approved and forwarded the documents to
the MFA in January. The MFA's Executive
Secretariat-equivalent is coordinating the final approvals.
It is expected that instructions to convey the instruments of
ratification to the Department will be transmitted to
Ambassador Dezcallar at the Spanish Embassy in February.
