Chibesakunda said that the Government of Zambia (GRZ) shares the views of the United States on extending the mandate of the Special Rapporteur for Sudan, suggesting that the Rapporteur had not had adequate time to complete her duties, a responsibility that was "very important" to fulfill. The Acting Director had engaged in conversations with the Zambian Permanent Representative to the United Nations and the MFA Permanent Secretary prior to reftel demarche, apparently agreeing to support the U.S. position even before the demarche was made.
