(S/REL UK) Poloff delivered February 10 to Joanne Yeadon, Head of the British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT) and Pitcairn Section of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office's Overseas Territories Directorate, a letter signed by Poloff that stated: "Further to our earlier discussions, I have been authorized to hereby affirm on behalf of the United States Government that there were no Chemical Weapons Convention declarable activities on the British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT) during 2008. I further affirm that there are no chemical weapons stockpiles or anything whatsoever in contravention of the Chemical Weapons Convention on the BIOT." (Refs C and D) ¶2.
