(SBU) Per reftel request, Department for International Development (DFID) officials Kate Binns and Vicky Seymour reported the following break-down of UK Government funding related to adaptation to ESTHOff on May 29, 2009: -- Bilateral Adaptation-Related Development Aid: The UK Government contributes approximately $370 million USD (225 million GBP) for bilateral adaptation-related development aid as part of its 2009-2012 Pilot Program for Climate Resilience (PPCR). This funding is spread over a three year period. -- International Aid/Funds: The UK Government contributes a total of $36 million USD (22 million GBP) for adaptation through two multilateral United Nations (UN) Special Funds. The first UN fund is the Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF),which the UK will contribute approximately $20 million USD (12 million GBP) between 2007-2009. The second UN fund is the Special Climate Change Fund (SCCF),which the UK contributed $16 million (10 million GBP) between 2005-2008. DFID officials said the UK Government planning process for additional bilateral and multilateral funding for adaptation is not expected until after the December 2009 meeting in Copenhagen. They would also appreciate clarification on whether the $280 million noted in reftel regarding the United States helping vulnerable countries adapt to the effects of climate change will be a one-time or yearly budget amount, as well as details on how this funding will be broken out regionally and bilaterally.
