1. (C) On January 9, Emboff met with Miljan Majhen, MFA Near
East Section, to urge Slovenia to withhold approval of the
EU-Syria Association Agreement (reftel). Majhen said that
Slovenia did not attach great significance to the accord,
which was just "updating a technical economic agreement." He
noted, however, that Slovenia would consider U.S. arguments
for delaying approval. He added that Slovenia did not have a
big economic exchange with Syria. Majhen indicated that
other EU member states with greater stakes would drive the
discussion.
