1. (C) Emboff met with MFA Security Division Chief Stanislav
Vidovic on February 24 to encourage Slovenia to support the
continuation and expansion of the NATO Training Mission-Iraq
(NTM-I),per reftel. Vidovic explained that although
Slovenia withdrew its two trainers from NTM-I in December in
keeping with the new government's electoral platform,
Slovenia's political support for NTM-I remained. He
suggested that in the next year or two Slovenia might be able
to provide some financial support, but was unable to do so
this year. Emboff discussed the issue on February 26 with
MOD Deputy Director General of Defense Planning Primoz Savc,
who also confirmed Slovenia's political support for
continuing NTM-I. Savc echoed Vidovic that Slovenia was
currently unable to redeploy any trainers.
