1. Smiljana Knez, Minister Plenipotentiary in the MFA's
International Organizations division, told emboff on April 15
that Slovenia would support the U.S. candidacy for the UN
Human Rights Council (HRC) (reftel). Knez noted that the
U.S. would be in a better position to influence the 2010
review of the HRC by seeking election now, and said that
Slovenia shared the view that the U.S. could help change the
direction of the council from the inside.
