Political Director about reftel demarche September 17,
between 0930h and 1000h Washington time. Post further
delivered non-paper shortly thereafter to the MFA Political
Director's office. Both Chief of Staff and Deputy Political
Director told Charge that although they had not discussed
this issue with the Minister, they were quite comfortable in
saying for the record that Portugal very much welcomes this
development and that it looks forward to working with us
through NATO on the new approach.
