UNCLAS LIMA 001000 SENSITIVE SIPDIS E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: PREL PHUM PE SUBJECT: PERU RESPONSE: DEMARCHE ON SUPPORTING NGO INVOLVEMENT AT THE UN REF: STATE 68551 (SBU) Poloff delivered reftel demarche to MFA Subsecretary of UN and Multilateral Affairs Alejandro Rodriguez on July 9. Rodriguez said he was unaware of the GOP position on accreditation of the two U.S. NGOs but would share our requests with appropriate decision-makers. As noted in reftel, Peru currently sits on the NGO Committee and voted with the US in favor of accrediting the Democracy Coalition Project. Peru abstained in the vote to prevent Dynamic Christian World Mission Foundation U.S.A.'s application from being closed by consensus. Rodriguez did not know the GOP position on Associacao Brasileira de Gays, Lesbicas e Transgeneros or the Arab Commission for Human Rights. Post will report any further response via septel. MCKINLEY
