In separate meetings, CDA and A/POL Chief delivered reftel
Afghan election points to MFA U/S Khaled
Al-Jarallah and Follow-up and Coordination Director
Ambassador Mugames. U/S Jarallah and Ambassador Mugames both
expressed the hope that the August 20 elections will proceed
peacefully and without fraud and intimidation; they
acknowledged the efforts of ISAF to help deliver such a
result. They also stressed that democratic development in
Afghanistan has broader implications in the region; a
successful, clear outcome in the elections would further
marginalize Taleban and AQ sympathizers.
