1. A/DCM on June 18 discussed reftel demarche points scoping
GOK interest in seeking membership in the G-8 Global
Partnership Against the Spread of Weapons and Materials of
Mass Destruction (GP) with Salem Al-Shibli of MFA's Legal
Department. Shibli, while not able to respond definitively,
agreed to forward our demarche points and background
non-paper up his chain of command for further study with a
strong recommendation that the GOK seriously consider
pursuing membership in the GP.
2. Shibli said MFA will respond to Embassy after the
appropriate offices in MFA and the Ministry of Defense have
had time to examine the issue.
