HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL

1. POLCOUNS on April 5 raised reftel points urging the GOK to
support the U.S. for a seat on the UN Human Rights Council
with Dr. Hamad Bu Rahamah, Counselor in MFA's International
Organization's Department, stressing the USG's commitment to
addressing global human rights and to rendering the HRC more
effective.
2. Bu Rahamah, after a rather lengthy statement concerning
the need for the HRC to take a balanced view on global human
rights issues that would not ignore or overlook human rights
abuses committed by Israel, informed POLCOUNS that the GOK
values USG contributions to the global human rights dialogue
and will support it for a seat during the May election.
