(SBU) Polcouns and POLOFF met with Shazryll Zahiran,
Principal Assistant Secretary in the MFA's Disarmament and
Non-Proliferation Section, on November 25 to deliver reftel
requests to support, and possibly co-sponsor, the Angarsk
nuclear fuel reserve to be proposed at the November 26-27
IAEA meeting. Shazryll replied "we are very much supportive,
as we understand the importance of this issue." However,
when asked if the GOM would be willing to co-sponsor the
motion, he replied that he did not believe the GOM could
accommodate that request. Post will report any additional
information should the MFA contact us before the IAEA
meeting.
