SUBJECT: MALAYSIAN AIR ASSETS FOR PAKISTAN

REF: STATE 55654

(SBU) Per reftel instruction, Post reached out to Malaysian
Air FORCE contacts and confirmed that the Government of
Malaysia has four active Mi-17 helicopters based at the
Subang Airport. These four aircraft have been transferred
from the Royal Malaysian AIR FORCE to the Malaysian Fire
Department and have been slightly modified to enhance their
firefighting capabilities. The helicopters are owned by the
Malaysian Fire Department, but are operated by the Malaysian
Air Force. Post believes it is unlikely that these
helicopters are available for lease, sale, or donation.
