SUBJECT: DEMARCHE DELIVERED ON PAKISTAN'S IDP CRISIS
REF: STATE 50276 - DEMARCHE INSTRUCTIONS
(SBU) Poloff delivered reftel demarche, requesting
substantial and timely support of the forthcoming UN
humanitarian appeal for Pakistan, on May 19 to Mohd Hussain
Bakar, Principal Assistant Secretary for the East and South
Asia Division in Malaysia's Foreign Ministry. Hussain stated
that the Malaysian government remained undecided on providing
a contribution. He offered that the GOM might come to a
decision on contributions within the next several weeks as it
continued to discuss and monitor events in Pakistan. Post
will continue to follow-up with the Foreign Ministry on this
issue.
