(SBU) Per reftel, EmbOff presented a diplomatic note and delivered demarche requesting the support of the Government of Jamaica (GOJ) for the U.S. candidacy in the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council election at the 26th IMO Assembly, to be held in London, November 23-December 4, 2009. Demarche was delivered to Ms. Norma Taylor Roberts, Director of the International Organizations Department of the GOJ's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade on the morning of September 25. ¶2. (SBU) Ms. Taylor Roberts confirmed that Jamaica would also be a candidate for a Category "C" seat on the IMO Council and promised that the GOJ would give consideration to the USG request.
