SUBJECT: JAMAICA: DEMARCHE DELIVERED ON UNGA "DEFAMATION OF
RELIGIONS" RESOLUTION

1. (U) Per reftels, Emboff delivered demarche on the potential
dangers of the "Defamation of Religions" resolution and solicited
the Government of Jamaica (GOJ)'s commitment to vote against or to
abstain on the resolution when it comes to the UNGA plenary session
for a final vote. Demarche was delivered to Ms. Norma Taylor
Roberts, Director of the International Organizations Department of
the GOJ's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade on the
afternoon of December 2.
2. (U) Ms. Taylor Roberts noted that USG should be pleased that GOJ
had abstained on the resolution in the Third Committee vote and
informed Emboff that GOJ would again abstain in the final vote in
the plenary session. Post will report any further response from
the GOJ.
