Hari Dahal, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture
and Cooperatives, told Emboff on September 15 he endorses the
principles underlying the global initiative on agricultural
development and food security that the United States promoted
at the G-8 summit in L,Aquila, Italy, last July. He was
particularly supportive of the initiative,s comprehensive
approach to investment. Dahal pointed out that the
Government of Nepal, while emphasizing the commercialization
of agriculture as a means of improving productivity,
recognizes the need to stimulate investment in infrastructure
that facilitates the movement of food from fields to tables,
such as improved storage and transportation.
