(U) Since May 6 late afternoon local time, the following key
events have occurred:
May 6
-Maoists conducted evening torch light rallies at several
locations in Kathmandu. Traffic was disrupted, but the
Regional Security Office received no reports of violence or
clashes with the police.
May 7
-The Parliamentary Special Hearing Committee unanimously
approved Acting Chief Justice Rayamajhee as the new Chief
Justice of the Supreme Court. Rayamajhee will assume office
after President Yadav receives a recommendation from the
Constitutional Council.
-One protester was injured at Maoist-affiliated women's
associations organized rally in Kathmandu today.
-Party meetings (both internal and cross-party) continued
-Nepal Army's briefing for Defense Attaches was ongoing at
close of business
