1. (SBU) MFA Senior advisor Davood Marodian informed us that
the trilateral summit, postponed from its original May 19
date, has been rescheduled for May 24. He expected more
visuals than substance.
2. (C) President Karzai is considering President
Ahmadinejad's invitation to Karzai to extend his visit to
Tehran through the following day. There is a small dustup
between Palace Chief of Staff Daudzai and FM Spanta; the
former advocates accepting and the latter has recommended
strongly against. Daudzai, who was Afghanistan's ambassador
to Tehran from 2005-07, has continuing close relations with
Iranian authorities.
