1. (C) Poloff delivered reftel demarche regarding recently
released Iranian-American journalist Roxana Saberi to Dewi
Tobing, Acting Deputy Director for American Affairs at the
Department of Foreign Affairs (DEPLU) on May 15. He noted
that the USG appreciated the Indonesian Embassy's recent
consultations with NEA/IR on the Saberi case and other Iran
matters. Ms. Saberi's release was a positive step and the
United States thanked those countries which had weighed in
with Tehran on the matter. Poloff reiterated the USG's
commitment to a diplomatic approach to issues of concern with
Iran and welcomed future consultations with Indonesia in this
area.
2. (C) Tobing said that Indonesia welcomed Ms. Saberi's safe
release. Indonesian officials also welcomed President
Obama's diplomatic approach to Iran. She promised that
Indonesia would continue to consult with the United States on
Iran issues.
