1. (C) The local Boeing representative for Garuda Airlines,
Indonesia's national airline, said that in mid-2008 he
observed two Iranian Blue Sky 747-200 airplanes in the Garuda
Maintenance Facility (GMF). GMF employees asked him to
provide maintenance advice on the planes, which he refused.
The Boeing representative added that GMF occasionally sends
Indonesian airplane mechanics to Iran to assist with
maintenance and repairs as Indonesian aircraft mechanics are
skilled and relatively inexpensive. GMF and Garuda Airlines
are business entities under the state-owned Garuda Group.
