1. POLOFF delivered invitation and informational paper on
the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism Draft Model
Guidelines workshop to Kamran Akhtar, Disarmament Director in
Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on February 7.
Akhtar welcomed the invitation and stated that experts from
the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA) would like
to participate. Unfortunately, he lamented, budget cuts at
PNRA make it nearly impossible for them to travel to overseas
meetings without external support. Akhtar wondered whether
USG could provide travel support for the meeting. POLOFF
promised to query Washington, but was noncommittal on whether
travel support would be possible.
