Econcouns presented reftel demarche January 22 to S.M.
Hussain Zaidi, Joint Secretary and Spokesperson for the
Ministry of Ports and Shipping. His colleagues Joint
Secretary Kamran Ali Qurashi and Director Captain Amjad Ali
were also present. Zaidi said he believed that Pakistan was
already implementing ISPS security level two, but would
consult with the Acting Director General of Ports and
Shipping in Karachi, Mr. Zafar Shaikh, to verify this. He
was receptive to inviting a U.S. Coast Guard team to
Pakistan, noting, however, that Mr. Shaikh would need to
coordinate with the Ministry of the Interior, as the
Pakistani Coast Guard was under the latter's jurisdiction.
