1. (C) POLOFF deliver June 2 ref demarche to Pakistan MFA
Director for Human Rights Imran Ahmed Siddiqui. Siddiqui
remarked that as a "Coordinator" for the Organization Islamic
Conference (OIC),Pakistan was likely to defer to the wishes
of fellow OIC member Sudan regarding any extension of the
Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Sudan
(SRSG).
2. (C) Furthermore, Siddiqui suggested the USG, if it has a
preference of resolutions, work from the African-drafted
text. He added, "the Human Rights Council (HRC) should avoid
competing resolutions," noting that initiatives by European
HRC members would be particularly irksome. If the USG
thought changes should be made to the African draft, then it
should find an African insider to push such changes within
the group.
