1. (SBU) Post delivered the invitation letter addressed to
President Nguyen Minh Triet to the September 23 UNSC Summit meeting
on August 27. The Deputy Director General of the Americas
Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that it was
"99 percent" certain that President Triet would attend the meeting
and indicated that President Triet would greatly appreciate the
honor of a short meeting with President Obama on the margins. The
MFA had no further response on the topic or position Vietnam might
take during the summit.
